Shifting to a New Way of Being in Religious Community
What is shifting in you? What is shifting in your congregation? This 2019-2020 blog series by our Pacific Western Regional staff explores the ways Unitarian Universalism at its best shifts us away from individualistic, binary, fear-based perfectionism and toward a wholehearted, community-oriented, hope-filled, faithful, and compassionate way of being.
Multicultural Transformation and Intercultural Competency
Racism is still very much alive in the United States. Increasingly, Unitarian Universalist congregations are looking to become more culturally competent and inclusive, to better understand “whiteness,” and to show up meaningfully for racial justice. How would you like to engage?

Re-Envisioning Religious Education and Family Ministry
Since the 2017 publication of The Death of Sunday School and the Future of Faith Formation (PDF), our congregations are realizing that they are not alone in their struggle to maintain a robust Sunday morning program for children. The Pacific Western Region offers tools and workshops for congregations to re-envision and re-enliven their connections with children and families.
Tools for Outreach and Social Media
Published June 2018, our Congregations Reaching Out Toolkit includes guides for finding a target audience for outreach, creating effective social media, and planning events to help build connections with Unitarian Universalism. The toolkit also features vibrant and customizable graphics for your congregation to use online and in print.
Support and Healing in the Age of #MeToo
First Unitarian Church in Portland, Oregon has shared with us resources for women and men's gatherings in response to #MeToo. We recognize that the women/men gender binary does not reflect all people's identity or experience, and encourage inclusive adaptation of these and other resources to minister to the people of our congregations.
- a four-session program for a women's circle (PDF), focused on mutual support and healing for survivors. The program is also available as a Word document.
- a half-day program for a men's workshop (PDF), focused on challenging the culture of toxic masculinity and being supportive of women survivors. The resources also include a participant handout (PDF).
