Mother’s Day is more than a day for flowers and pancakes. It's a time to highlight the aspects of motherhood that are not usually visible in the greeting card aisles.

It’s a call to honor the resiliency of all those who mother, especially those who bear the brunt of hurtful policies or who are weighed down by stigma in our culture.

It’s opportunity to help create the conditions so that all families can thrive.

• What role to Mamas have in the creation and sustaining of culture or justice or community?
• Where have you seen that role or others being played out in your life or that of your community?
• Who raised you?
• What systemic difficulties or opportunities did that person/people face in their experience of parenting/mentoring, given their gender identity, sexual orientation, immigration status, physical ability, etc?
• How did/does the experience of your parent(s) compare to others of their era?
• Where did they find sustenance, comfort, or inspiration in their experience of parenting/mentoring?
• Who are you raising?
• What systemic challenges or opportunities do you face in the experience of parenting/mentoring that are similar or unique compared to others today?
• What does Unitarian Universalism or liberal religion have to offer Mamas who face barriers or stigma in our culture?
• What has your own community offered, or what could you offer?
• What theological or spiritual value to we assign to Mamas?<
• How do we interpret creation stories or scripture in ways that are limiting and/or liberating to those who mother?
